All Three Rowing Crews Complete Racing on Sunday

The heavyweights claim the Stevenson Cup; women earn a pair of medals; lightweight 2V8 impresses
NEW YORK — All three Columbia rowing crews were in action this weekend, led by the heavyweights capturing the Stevenson Cup on Sunday with a win in the 1V8 race over Navy at Mercer Lake.
The Stevenson Cup was first presented in 1950 to winner of the first varsity race between Navy and Columbia and named in honor of Maxwell Stevenson, an early chairman of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association. The Lions snapped Navy's five-race winning streak in the Stevenson Cup.

The women's crew had all six boats in the grand finals at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Varsity Four C picked up a bronze medal, while the Third Varsity Eight took silver. The First Varsity Eight boat came in fifth place in the grand final to complete the Eastern Sprints. The lightweight crew hosted the Geiger Cup against Cornell and MIT on Saturday, before racing Dartmouth in the Subin Cup on Sunday. Racing was held at Overpeck Park in Leonia, N.J. Columbia's Second Varsity Eight boat won two races. First, the Lions 2V8 defeated Cornell and MIT with a time of 5:46.5 before earning a victory over Dartmouth at 5:46.8.
