Softball Completes Sweep Over Dartmouth

Lions say farewell to four exceptional student-athletes on Senior Day

NEW YORK – The Columbia softball team completed a sweep of visiting Dartmouth on Senior Day, extending their winning streak to eight games. The Lions edged out a 2-1 victory over the Big Green on Sunday afternoon at the Columbia Softball Stadium. With the win, the 2025 squad tied the 2019 team for the most conference victories in program history with 15.

Prior to first pitch, the Lions honored seniors Caroline Palys, Maddie Souza, Cami Neal, and Jordan Hill, recognizing their contributions and leadership both on and off the field.

Columbia (23-16, 15-6 Ivy) got a strong pitching performance from starter Jordan Hill (10-7), who went the distance in her final home start for Columbia. Hill only allowed one run and 8 hits on the day in her second complete game of the series.

The Lions carried their strong end-of-season momentum into the contest, striking first with a solo home run by Olivia Madkins in the bottom of the third inning. Madkins, who went 2-for-2 on the day, launched her second homer of the year over the left-field fence to open the scoring.

From there, Hill took over, pitching 7.0 complete, scattering eight hits, with only one run and no walks allowed. The performance captured Hill's tenth win of the season.

Dartmouth (17-21, 10-11 Ivy) crossed home plate in the top of the fifth, with Faby Serna batting in a run on a two-out double down the left field line. This wouldn't be enough for the Big Green, as Columbia would retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning and see out the game.

Payton Shimansky's one-out single in the bottom of the fifth brought home Caroline Palys from second. This would stand up as the winning run, with Hill finishing off the remainder of the game with a strong final two innings, surrendering only two hits in that span.

The loss went to Isabel Kirby of Dartmouth, who went 2.2 innings pitched, allowing five hits and an earned run.
