Wrestling Blasts Princeton to Open Ivy League Action

Lions Win nine of 10 bouts against Tigers
PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia dominated from the start and overwhelmed host Princeton, winning 36-6 to open Ivy League action Friday night at Jadwin Gymnasium.
Columbia won nine of 10 bouts, including the first eight, to move to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in Ivy duals this season.
The Lions jumped out to a 12-0 advantage after the first three bouts of the night. Starting at 165, 29th-ranked Cesar Alvan defeated No. 16 Ty Whalen via a 4-2 decision. No. 28 Nick Fine followed that up with a 5-3 decision over Holden Garcia. Joe Curtis notched his 10th win by fall of the year when he pinned Xavier Giles one minute into the bout at 184.
A trio of tech falls gave Columbia an insurmountable lead. No. 32 Jack Wehmeyer began the run with a 17-1 win over Gabe Garibaldi. Wehmeyer has now won 10 straight bouts, dating back to January 3rd. No. 32 Vincent Mueller followed that up with a 15-0 at 285. Sulayman Bah finished the flurry with a 20-3 win over Dale O'Blia at 125.
Evin Gursoy defeated Dan Jones 3-0 at 133 to extend the Lions' lead. No. 20 Lorenzo Frezza defeated Matthe Martino 13-9. After Princeton won a bout at 149, No. 20 Kai Owen capped off the night with a 9-4 win over Rocco Camillaci at 157.
Columbia returns to action tomorrow evening when they take on Penn in Philadelphia. Saturday's Ivy League dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
