
No. 12 Men’s Tennis Comes Up Short Against Tigers in ECAC Championship

Lions rally back after trailing 2-0, but cannot complete the comeback
PRINCETON, N.J. — The 12th-ranked Columbia men's tennis team put up a battle but came up short against Princeton, falling 4-3, in the Championship match of the ECAC Indoor Championships at the Lenz Tennis Center on Sunday.
Columbia (5-4) received singles victories from Nicolas Kotzen, Thanaphat Boosarawongse and Abhishek Thorat, but Princeton secured the doubles point and split the remaining singles matches to edge the Lions.
Kotzen, ranked No. 25 nationally, rallied at No. 2 singles to defeat Fnu Nidunjianzan, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. The junior steadied play in the deciding set, breaking late to secure one of Columbia's three team points.
Boosarawongse added a straight-set win at No. 4, topping No. 96 Sebastian Sec, 6-4, 6-4, to help keep the Lions within reach.
Thorat also provided a three-set victory at No. 5, overcoming a first-set deficit to beat Milan Markovitz, 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-3.
Princeton claimed the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Columbia's pairing of Sachin Palta and Michael Zheng earned a 6-4 decision at No. 2, but the Tigers closed out the point with a 6-4 win at the top spot.
In singles, Princeton's Aleksander Mitric evened the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6. Boosarawongse's result put Columbia ahead 2-1, and Kotzen followed to give the Lions a 3-2 edge.
Princeton answered with victories at Nos. 1 and 3. No. 7 Paul Inchauspe outlasted No. 3 Michael Zheng in three sets at the top position, and Landon Ardila rallied past No. 37 Sachin Palta, 6-7(6), 7-5, 6-1, to clinch the team victory.
Columbia returns to action on Wednesday, February 25, when it hosts Delaware. That match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first serve.
