The Lions have full squads on both the men’s and women’s sides as they aim for national titles from March 19-22
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbia fencing will send six men and six women, the maximum for both squads, to the 2026 NCAA Championships. The four-day event will take place from March 19-22, at the Joyce Center on the campus of Notre Dame.
This year, the NCAA will separate men's and women's team champions for the first time since 1989. On the women's side, competition will run from March 19-20. The Lions are one of three programs with the full allotment of fencers, joining the Fighting Irish and Northwestern. The men's event will be held March 21-22, with Columbia joining Notre Dame and St. John's as the only programs with six total competitors.
Eight of Columbia's fencers have NCAA Championship experience and have gone on to earn All-America honors at least once in their careers.
Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After round robin, the topfour finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places, and non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.
An institution's place finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during the round-robin competition.
A live feed of the semifinal and final bouts will be available at 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ on day two of the women's and men's championships. Semifinals and finals, along with other championship highlights, will air on ESPNU at 5 p.m. ET on April 1.
