Heavyweight Rowing Earns Favorable Results at Lake Morey Invite This Weekend

The Lions’ 1V8 boat defeated No. 14 Wisconsin and No. 19 Georgetown
FAIRLEE, Vt. — Columbia heavyweight rowing picked up 1V8 victories over No. 14 Wisconsin and No. 19 Georgetown this weekend at the Lake Morey Invite. The Lions racked up five victories across the board on Saturday and Sunday.
Day 1 Recap
No. 17 Columbia began day one on Saturday racing in the Lusins Cup against No. 12 Boston U. The Terriers swept all four races and retained the Lusins Cup for an 11th straight year. The 1V8 race featured a cross tail wind at the start before shifting to a cross head over flat water. The Lions were edged in the Lusins Cup by 3.5 seconds. Columbia crossed the finish line at 5:47.9.
In the second session in the afternoon, Columbia responded with three victories over No. 19 Georgetown in the 1V8, 2V8, and 3V8 races. In the 1V8 race, the Lions powered past the Hoyas with a time of 5:51.9, earning the win by 1.4 seconds. Columbia's 2V8 and 3V8 boats garnered comfortable victories in their afternoon races.

On Sunday morning, Columbia's 1V8 crew took down No. 14 Wisconsin. The Lions posted a time of 5:48.9 to the Badgers' mark of 5:52.1. Columbia's 3V8 boat blew past Wisconsin by 2.6 seconds with a final time of 6:07.0. Columbia's 2V8 (vs. Wisconsin) and 4V8 (vs. Dartmouth and BU) were also in action on the final day of the invite. Sunday's racing featured a light, varying head wind between 1-3 mph on flat water.
