TAMPA, FLA. - Army out-hit Columbia 16-10 en route to a 13-0 win at the Yankees Minor League Complex in Tampa, Fla. With the loss Columbia fell to 0-4, while Army improved to 2-5.
Army scored in the bottom of the first inning when Kyle Scogin led off with a double, and scored on the next play when Milan Dinga hit a single up the middle for the RBI. The Black Knights tacked on one more in the bottom of the second inning when Chris Simmons hit a one-out double to the center field wall and Cole White singled him home.
Army scored three runs in the third and two more in the fifth, while adding one in the sixth and five in the seventh for the final 13-0 score.
Brendan Quinn started for the Lions, going three innings, giving up seven hits and five earned runs. John Flood pitched two solid innings for Columbia, giving up two un-earned runs, while Nick Oleksak and Ryan Nivakoff pitched one and two innings respectively.
Offensively, Tighe Holden led the Lions, picking up his first start at first base and going 2-for-5 with two doubles on the day. Henry Perkins, Craig Rodwogin, Andrew Ward and Val Miklausich added singles, as did William Niosi, Mike Malfettone and Marc Gold.
Kyle Scogin and Chris Simmons both went 3-for-5 to lead Army.
Justin Kashner got the win for the Black Knights, going six innings, giving up six hits with seven strikeouts.
Columbia returns to action tomorrow when they face Army in a noontime doubleheader at the University of Tampa.
