NEW YORK, N.Y. - Bill Purdy (Bayport, N.Y.) was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for all games ending March 12 conference officials announced today. This is the first weekly award for the Lions this season.
Purdy turned in a stellar collegiate debut. The rookie threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball and allowed just three hits to an Elon team that had posted 20 runs the day before. Purdy baffled the Elon batters with great control, striking out six and walking just one. Purdy did not get a decision as the Lions fell, 5-4.
