Final Stats

POUGHKEEPISE, N.Y. - The Lions took early leads in both games against Marist but could not hold on, losing the first game 6-4 and the second 3-2. Columbia is now 14-22 overall, 1-3 Ivy for the season.

CU took the lead in the top of the first inning in the first game, scoring three runs off of four hits and one Marist error. Maiya Chard-Yaron led off the inning hitting a hard line drive to the shortstop, who bobbled the ball, allowing Chard-Yaron to occupy first. Lexie Costic then bunted for a base hit, putting the runners at first and second for Marisa Marconi. Marconi hit a single down the left field line, scoring Chard-Yaron, but the leftfielder got to the ball quickly and was able to throw out Costic as she tried to advance to third. Marconi moved over to third base on a passed ball and then first-year Ciji Rich laid down a bunt for a suicide squeeze, scoring Marconi and making it to first base. Rich advanced to second on a hit and run with Kacy Krisman at the plate and with two outs, Shelle Borton scored Rich from second with a single to give the Lions their 3-0 lead.

The Red Foxes did some scoring of their own in the bottom half of the inning, getting two runs, making the score 2-3. Marist took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Allison Bartley hit a two-run homer with two outs.

The Lions tied up the score in the top of the fifth as Kim Krisman and Chard-Yaron led off the inning with two singles. The runners moved over to second and third on a ground out by Costic and then Marconi scored Krisman on a ground ball to the shortstop to tie the score 4-4.

Marist took back the lead in the bottom of the sixth, getting another two-run homerun, this time from Bridget Hurlman, making the final score 6-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, Parsons was hit by a pitch and then Kim Krisman hit a single to right field, advancing Parsons to third. The Red Foxes, however retired the next three Columbia batters to win.

The second game remained scoreless until the fourth inning, when Columbia took a 1-0 lead. Parsons led off with a single and Kacy Krisman moved her over to second with a single off a hit-and-run. The ball was missed by the leftfielder and Parsons scored as Krisman moved to second.

Marist took back the lead again in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs off three hits and a Columbia error, making the score 3-1. CU made it a one-run game in the fifth inning, scoring one run. Kim Krisman led off with a double off the left centerfield fence and with one out, Parsons hit another double, this time to right centerfield, scoring Krisman.

The Lions face Yale and Brown this coming weekend at home. CU plays the Bulldogs on Saturday, April 16th and the Bears on Sunday, April 17th. Both games will begin a 1 p.m.
