NEW YORK – The Columbia softball team put together one of its best seasons in program history in 2018. The season included multiple record-breaking performances, the first winning season since 2002 and the first winning Ivy League season in program history.

TEAM RECORDS
The Lions set eight statistical offensive team records: batting average (.303), slugging percentage (.506), runs (244), triples (12), home runs (48), RBIs (218), total bases (573) and walks (131). Columbia also won its most Ivy League games in program history, going 13-8 in conference play to finish third in the league standings.
WINNING FORMULA
Columbia went 21-19 (.525) on the season, marking its first winning season since setting the program record in winning percentage with a 27-23 (.540) record in 2002. It marked the program's third winning mark overall since its inaugural 2000 season.
INDIVIDUAL RECORDS
Taylor Troutt set new program single-season records in batting average (.455), slugging percentage (.797) and on-base percentage (.507). Troutt's batting average currently ranks No. 7 in league history, while her slugging and OBP rank 11th. Additionally, Madison Gott set a new single-season record in triples with five.
Madison Gott ended her four-year career as the Columbia softball program's all-time leader in runs (96), total bases (333), doubles (42), home runs (30) and RBIs (120). She also ranks second in hits (191). Taylor Troutt wrapped up her Columbia career No. 2 all-time in total bases (265), home runs (24) and RBIs (99), while ranking fourth in home runs (24).
IVY LEAGUE LEADERS
Columbia leads the Ivy League with a .303 batting average, 244 runs, 343 hits, 62 doubles, 12 triples, 48 home runs, 218 RBIs, 573 total bases, .506 slugging percentage, 131 walks and a .381 on-base percentage. In conference play, Columbia was also No. 1 in the Ivy League with a .327 batting average, 139 runs, 201 hits, 38 doubles, 30 home runs, 131 RBIs, 339 total bases, a .552 slugging percentage and a .399 on-base percentage.
24 STRAIGHT ON-BASE
Senior Taylor Troutt put together a career-best 24-game on-base streak from March 11 – April 21. She reached base safely in 35 of the 39 games she played in this season. Troutt also hit safely in 32 of those 39 games.Â
HITTING STREAKS
Senior Madison Gott hit .468 through a 12-game hitting streak that spanned March 17 – April 6. Gott had 22 hits, 15 RBIs, 14 runs scored, six doubles, two triples and four home runs over the three-week span.Â
Sophomore Sommer Grzybek had an 11-game hitting streak from Feb. 24 – March 13. Grzybek hit .417 along the way with four runs and six RBIs, also walking four times and stealing two bases.
GOTT MAKES NATIONAL HEADLINES
Madison Gott made national headlines when she was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week (March 20). Gott batted .474 with a .524 OBP, 1.000 slugging percentage, three home runs, five runs and eight RBIs through five games. The highlight of her week came in Saturday's Ivy League opener against Penn, when she hit game-winning home runs in both of Columbia's extra-inning victories. Her first came in the eighth inning of game one to win it, 8-6 (8), and her second game in the eighth of game two, winning the game, 9-7 (8). Gott went on to hit her third two-run home run of the series on Sunday, finishing the first weekend of Ivy play 7 for 13 with five runs and six RBIs. The national player of the week recognition is the first in Columbia softball program history. The senior was also named Ivy League Player of the Week for a second time this season.
VARSITY C AWARDS
Madison Gott was named Columbia Athletics' Leader of the Year at the 97th Annual Varsity C Celebration. Gott was also a finalist for the Connie S. Maniatty Female Student-Athlete Award, recognizing the four-year career of Columbia student-athletes. Taylor Troutt was a finalist for the William V. Campbell Female Performer of the Year Award. Maria Pagane was a finalists for the Female Rookie of the Year Award.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
In the latest NCAA national statistical rankings, the Columbia softball team ranks among the top 50 in six categories: No. 10 in home runs/game (1.20), No. 13 in slugging (.506), No. 18 in scoring (6.10 runs/game), No. 20 in doubles/game (1.55), No. 21 in triples/game (0.30) and No. 33 in batting average (.303).

TIMELINE
Feb. 23-25 – Columbia opens the season at the FAU "Strike-Out-Cancer" Tournament, where it went up against three conference champions from 2017 (Texas State, Tulsa, Illinois-Chicago).
Feb. 23 – Maria Pagane homers in her first collegiate at-bat against 2017 Sun Belt champion Texas State
March 3 – After scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings, Columbia defeats Virginia, 11-8, on Amanda Nishihira's three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth.
March 4 – Madison Gott hits for the only known cycle in the Columbia softball program's 19-year history, going 4-for-4 with three runs and five RBIs in a, 12-1 (5), victory over Howard.
March 5 – Madison Gott is named Ivy League Player of the Week and Maria Pagane is named Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Gott hit .471 and slugged 1.059 with three doubles, two triples and a home run over the weekend at the District Classic, including hitting for the cycle against Howard. Pagane drove in five runs and scored six through Columbia's four games in the nation's capital, homering in back-to-back games as part of Saturday's sweep over Virginia and Georgetown
March 10-14 - Columbia was able to bring six players back to their home state over Spring Break, including senior Nina Mandracchia (San Jose, Calif.), junior Jordan Townsend (Yorba Linda, Calif.), sophomores Amanda Nishihira (Los Alamitos, Calif.) and Emma Trussell (Chula Vista, Calif.), as well as first-years Max Ortega (Highland, Calif.) and Kiana McCaul (Los Gatos, Calif.). Of the half-dozen, Townsend, Nishihira and Ortega hail from the Los Angeles area, where the Lions spent their Spring Break trip.
March 13 – Erin Gallo tosses a 1-hit shutout against two-time reigning Big West champion Cal State Fullerton, striking out a career-high seven as Columbia defeated the Titans, 5-0. It was Gallo's first collegiate shutout.
March 17 – Behind a pair of eighth-inning home runs off the bat of Madison Gott, Columbia takes an extra-inning doubleheader over Penn, 8-6 (8) and 9-7 (8), to open the Ivy League season. The Lions hit seven home runs on the day, including two from Gott to go with one each from Maria Pagane, Sommer Grzybek, Amanda Nishihira, Taylor Troutt and Max Ortega.
March 20 – Madison Gott becomes the first player in program history to be named Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Softball Player of the Week. She batted .474 with a .524 OBP, 1.000 slugging percentage, three home runs, five runs and eight RBIs through five games.
March 24 – Columbia opens its home schedule with two wins against Yale, 8-2 and 4-1, and begins Ivy League play 4-1.
April 13-14 – Columbia sweeps a three-game series at Brown, outscoring the Bears 20-5 to improve to 9-6 in the Ivy League. Madison Canby tossed her first collegiate shutout in game two, allowing just four hits and striking out three. Columbia hit started the third inning of game one with six consecutive extra-base hits, including three home runs.
April 21 – Columbia begins Senior Weekend by dominating a doubleheader over defending Ivy League champion Princeton, 9-1 (6) and 9-0 (5). Taylor Troutt extended her on-base streak to a season-long 24 consecutive games, which was the second-longest streak by an Ivy League player this season. Erin Gallo pitched her second shutout of the season in the game-two victory.
April 23 – Sommer Grzybek is named Ivy League Player of the Week for a second time in her career. Grzybek hit .500 (5 for 10) with a .583 on-base percentage and .900 slugging percentage in four games last week. She led the Columbia offense to a series victory over defending Ivy League champion Princeton, going 5 for 7 (.714) across the three games with a home run, a double, four runs and four RBIs.
April 28 – Columbia sets a team record for runs scored in a doubleheader by tallying 30 as part of 15-10 and 15-7 victories at Cornell. The Lions totaled eight home runs on the day while senior Madison Gott broke the program's all-time runs record with her 96th.Â
April 30 – Taylor Troutt is named Ivy League Player of the Week for the first time in her career. She recorded three hits and a home run in all three games and batted .643 (9-for-14) for the series, with eight runs, two doubles and seven RBI.
May 9 – Taylor Troutt is named Ivy League Player of the Year to headline a record eight Lions who earned All-Ivy League Honors. Troutt and Madison Gott were first-team selections, marking the first time since 2005 two Lions earned first-team honors. Amanda Nishihira and Sommer Grzybek earned second-team honors, while Madison Canby, Erin Gallo, Max Ortega and Maria Pagane were honorable mentions.
May 17 – Taylor Troutt becomes the fourth Lion in program history to earn a NFCA All-Region selection. Troutt was named to the Mid Atlantic Region Second Team and is the softball program's first All-Region honoree Alyssa Rodia in 2014.Â
May 24 – Taylor Troutt polishes off her postseason awards by being named First Team All-ECAC. She was one of 11 ECAC member players to earn first-team accolades.
