The men's golf team finished sixth of 26 teams at the George Washington Invitational, just 11 strokes behind the eventual team champion.

Columbia placed ahead of George Mason, the third-ranked team in the Lions' district and George Washington, the fourth-ranked team, positioning itself nicely for a possible at-large spot to the upcoming NCAA Tournament, where the top four teams in the region earn a bid.

Chris Arkin (71-76) and Chris Condello (74-73) finished tied for eighth in the field of 135. Matt Wong (75-77) also had a solid showing to finish tied for 35th place. Clayton Broyles (81-76) finished in the middle of the pack, shooting five strokes better in the second round.

"It was a great way to open up the season," head coach Rich Mueller said. "We're going in the right direction and beat the teams we needed to beat. It was a solid start to the spring season."

Columbia returns to the links on Saturday, April 1 at the Towson Invitational in Westover, Md.
