NEW YORK - Barry Neuberger has been named Columbia University's first-ever associate athletics director for sports marketing, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education Dr. M. Dianne Murphy announced today.

Neuberger has spent nearly thirty years in college sports marketing over the course of his career, with significant experience in athletics administration at numerous NCAA institutions. He comes to Columbia from Worldwide Marketing & Media Group, where as Vice President of Sales, he secured sponsorship and clearances for live events and taped programs. At Worldwide, Neuberger was responsible for the creation of numerous marketing vehicles, including the television program, Inside the Big East.

"I am proud and honored to welcome Barry Neuberger to the Columbia Athletics team," Murphy said. "His knowledge of all phases of college sports marketing from ticket sales to corporate partnerships, along with his deep understanding of the New York City sports marketplace, are tremendous assets for Columbia, especially as we strive to develop and implement our comprehensive sports marketing program."

Neuberger has been involved in nearly every aspect of sports marketing over the course of his career. As a regional account manager with Action Sports Media from 2001-2004, he created and implemented venue marketing packages for numerous college athletics programs. His roster of corporate partners included many Fortune 500 organizations, including Ford Motor Company, State Farm Insurance and Dodge (DaimlerChrysler).

As an assistant athletic director with Oakland University (Michigan), he launched the nation's first internet-exclusive broadcast package of men and women's basketball games. Neuberger has also been responsible for the planning and execution of "midnight madness" events, season ticket campaigns, sports information and athletics development over the course of his 27-year career in college sports.

"I look forward to the opportunity to work with Dianne to build and maintain programs that will allow Columbia Athletics to achieve the levels of excellence that are synonymous with the standards held by the entire University."

A native New Yorker born in Brooklyn, Neuberger is no stranger to the New York college sports scene. He began his career in college athletics as the director of sports information at Pace University in 1978, where he served for six years. Neuberger also served for nine years as an assistant athletics director at New York University, where he was responsible for development, marketing and sports information with the Violets' Division III program.

"I am really excited about the administrative team that we have assembled here at Columbia," Murphy added. "With Barry on board, I think that we have all the pieces in place to achieve excellence throughout the intercollegiate athletics program."
