Dan Tischler reunited with his former college coach Brett Boretti and joined the Columbia baseball staff as an assistant coach in June 2012. In January 2019, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach.

Tischler has been a part of five Ivy League Championships during his time at Morningside Heights and six of the last 10 overall (Cornell – 2012). He serves as the team's recruiting coordinator, works primarily with the infield, and coaches third base for the Lions.

The Lions hitting, infield defense, and base running have excelled under Tischler's guidance. Columbia boasted one of the top offenses in the Ivy League over the past two seasons and led the conference in home runs (72), batting average (.306), runs (376), runs batted in (340), slugging percentage (.517), and total bases (850) for the second-straight season. Tischler has aided the Lions in setting program records for fielding percentage twice in back-to-back seasons (2013 - .971, 2014 - .975) and double plays turned (48) in 2015.

In 2023, Tischler oversaw a Lions infield that led the Ivy League with 42 turned double plays and 0.93 per game. Columbia also allowed a league-low 21 stolen bases in 2023 (20 less than Dartmouth who had the second-least allowed). The Lions allowed just six stolen bases in 21 Ivy League games (10 less than Penn who had the second-least allowed).

Individually, 2023 Ivy League Player of the Year Andy Blake committed just three errors in 21 conference games at shortstop and led the league in assists. Blake was named one of 25 semifinalists for the 2023 Brooks Wallace Award which honors the nation's top shortstop, the College Baseball Foundation announced. He also checked in at No. 30 on D1 Baseball's Week 12 Top 50 Shortstops List.

A total of 24 infielders have earned All-Ivy League accolades throughout Tischler's tenure, including two Players of the Year and two Rookies of the Year, and at least three student-athletes on all-conference squads for the past seven seasons.

A native New Yorker, Tischler came to Columbia after spending the previous two years as an assistant coach at Cornell. In 2012, he helped guide the Big Red to a program record for wins (31), Ivy League wins (14) and the program's first Ivy League championship since 1976.

Prior to his stint at Cornell, Tischler was the pitching coach at Swarthmore (Pa.) for two seasons. In 2010, the Garnet had its first 20-win season in 25 years and made the Centennial Conference tournament for the first time in program history.

Tischler played four years at Franklin & Marshall and was a team captain in 2008. A first team all-conference second team ABCA All-Region pitcher, Tischler graduated as the F&M career record holder for saves with 10 and is currently second on the career list.

Tischler graduated cum laude from Franklin & Marshall in 2008 and received his Master's degree in education from Columbia's Teachers College in 2012.
