Volleyball Loses To Long Island

In the first round of the Fairfield Tournament, Columbia lost to LIU 3-0. The Lions are now 2-5 on the season.
The Lions started out strong, but tapered off during the match, losing 30-23, 30-22, and 30-16. In the first game, Columbia had a hitting percentage of .303 but could not outscore the Blackbirds.
Sophomore Natalie Gerling led the Lions in offense, having 13 kills along with eight digs and one service ace. Joining her in double digits was first-year Amalia Viti with 11 kills. Junior Nikki Learned led the team on defense with 9 digs while tallying 8 kills on a .538 hitting percentage.
The Lions continue playing in the Fairfield Tournament tomorrow, September 24th as they take on the hosting Stags at 2 p.m. and Albany at 5 p.m.
