
Lions Lose To Cornell In Volleyball

In the first game, Columbia came out firing, gaining an early 3-0 lead. The Big Red, however, went on a 5-1 run to regain the lead, which they would keep throughout the rest of the game. The Lions could not gain momentum, scoring only two points on their serve for the rest of the game, losing to Cornell 30-18.
The second game started out with Columbia taking another early lead, this time 5-3. The two teams both teams sided out and Cornell was able to take a 9-7 lead with another 5-1 run. The Lions kept it close for the next rotation series but the Big Red powered through the rest of the match to win 30-24.
The third game was all about Cornell as the Big Red scored 20 of their 30 points off their serve and did not allow the Lions to get into a rhythm. Cornell took the game 30-16 to complete the sweep.
Kim shined on defense, having a career-high 14 digs along with one service ace. Sophomore Natalie Gerling led the Lions with 10 kills and scored a double-double with 10 digs.
The Lions continue their Ivy League schedule, facing Yale and Brown at home in Levien Gymnasium. Columbia will play the Bulldogs on Friday, October 7th at 7 p.m. and the Bears on Saturday, October 8th at 4 p.m.
