The Lions closed within two at 6-4, but Hofstra went on a 4-0 run to make the score 10-4. Columbia did not get any closer as the Pride closed out the game 30-21.
The second game went back and forth early with neither team taking a lead larger than two points until Hofstra broke an eight-all tie with a 4-1 run to lead 12-9. The Pride took the game 30-22 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Hofstra took the third game 30-27 to earn the three game sweep. The Pride led by as many as nine points late in the third game before Gerling led a Columbia run to cut the lead to two, but Hofstra came up with the final kill to end the match.
First-year Amalia Viti added seven kills in the match along with five digs and sophomore Shannon Hunzicker had 22 assists.
The Lions begin their Ivy campaign on Saturday, October 1st, when they take on Cornell. Columbia will face the Big Red at home in Levien Gym at 4 p.m.
