NEW YORK - Two former Columbia standouts, quarterback Jeff Otis (Arizona Cardinals) and defensive tackle Michael Quarshie (Oakland Raiders), have been signed by NFL teams.
Otis, who ranks second in all-time passing yardage (4,666 yards) at Columbia, has been allocated to NFL Europe. Otis is No. 2 on the all-time Columbia passing list in both yardage and pass completions (429) behind only former Detroit Lion John Witkowski '84.
Quarshie spent the 2005 season on the Raiders' practice squad as part of the NFL International Development program. A two-time All-Ivy honoree with the Lions, Quarshie tied an NCAA record with eight tackles for a loss in Columbia's 2004 season opener vs. Fordham.
The pair brings to three the number of 2005 Columbia alumni to be signed by an NFL team since graduation; Wade Fletcher was on the New York Giants' practice squad for the 2005 season.
