NEW YORK ? Former Tennessee Tech standout Leah Frazier Dixon has joined head coach Paul Nixon's staff at Columbia as an assistant coach, Nixon announced. Frazier Dixon was previously an assistant coach at Rider during the 2006-07 season.
“We're able to add a former post player to our staff who played on a top-25 team that made trips to the NCAA Tournament,” Nixon explained. “Having a coach who has a high level of playing experience is something our players can really benefit from.”
Frazier Dixon was a two-year starter and four-year letterwinner at Tennessee Tech from 1983-87 and continued her basketball career with coaching positions at the AAU, high school and college level including stints at Minnesota and Austin Peay.
Although she coached at Rider last season, Frazier Dixon was close to the Columbia women's basketball team with her daughter Chelsea being a first-year on the team.
“I'm thrilled to be working with Paul Nixon,” said Frazier Dixon. “Last season I saw these are young women who really desire to be champions. There is an opportunity here to do something really special in the Ivy League.”
Frazier Dixon will work primarily with the post players at Columbia. The Lions return four front-court players taller than 6'0” and added two 6'3” centers to the incoming first-year class.
“It goes without saying that Leah has a vested emotional interest in the program,” Nixon said. “We're extremely excited about her sharing her experiences and being able to develop our group of young post players.”
