VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Columbia head coach Katie Beach spent the last few weeks coaching of the USA U16 National Team, which played four games versus Canada. The series, which took place in Vancouver, B.C. from July 23-28, is an annual event called the CAN/AMS Challenge.
Beach was asked by USA Field Hockey to be the head coach of the U16 squad, and helped the team sweep Canada with four consecutive victories.
Over the span of the four games, the USA U16 outscored Canada by a 9-4 margin, and collected two shutouts (1-0 and 2-0).
"It was a great experience for me to be involved in the international coaching scene since my retirement (as a player) from the USA National Team in May 2004," Beach explained. "The team had one training session together prior to our first game. Under those circumstances, it was great to come away with four victories."
