NEW YORK ? Norries Wilson, Patricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football, appeared on Time Warner Cable's NY1 on September 13. Wilson spoke with Tom McDonald about the upcoming season on "Sports on 1". The segment was about eight minutes long, and Coach Wilson got to speak his mind on topics ranging from his wrestling career to the punishment dealt to the New England Patriots by the NFL.
Wilson said of the NFL's decision: "It's probably going to serve as a deterrent. It is unprecedented, so I would say it was fair."
McDonald asked how Wilson feels about a 5-5 finish in his first season as head coach in 2006. "We were happy with the way we finished. We ended on an upbeat and that helped in recruiting," Wilson said. "We know we have to grow and keep going forward."
Regarding the Liberty Cup game at Fordham Saturday, Wilson noted, "[Fordham] beat a good team in Rhode Island and hung in against a good Albany team. It is going to be a big test for us on Saturday night."
"I love my players," Wilson added about his team. "The first time I told them that, they just looked at me with blank stares.
"They are at a 20-hour disadvantage. I have them 20 hours a week, and that's 20 hours they can't be studying physics or calculus or engineering. They are out there pouring their hearts into football."
NY1 is available in 2.1 million homes on Time Warner Cable's channel one.
The Lions face the Rams September 15 at 6 p.m. at Jack Coffey Field in the Bronx. Columbia's home opener is the following week, September 22, vs. Marist at 12:30 p.m.
