NEW YORK -- Senior cross country runner Megan Lessard and junior football player Lou Miller have been selected the Columbia University Student-Athletes of the Month for the month of November. Lessard capped a remarkable senior cross country season by competing at the NCAA National Championships, while Miller finished the year ranked among the nation's best in a pair of defensive categories.
After being named to the All-Ivy League second team on the final day of October by way of an eight-place finish at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, Lessard continued her postseason at the NCAA Northeast Regionals on November 15. Lessard finished tenth in the race and in the process earned herself an individual bid to the NCAA National Championships. There, the Manchester, N.H., native finished 58th overall out of 252 runners, completing the 6000-meter race in 20:53.9.
Miller totaled 28 tackles in the month of November, including a team-leading 8.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks. The junior defensive end from Cincinnati, Ohio, finished the season ranked second in the nation with 19.5 tackles for a loss, recording the most by a Columbian since former NFL defensive end Rory Wilfork '97CC had 21 in 1995. He also ranked 12th in the nation in sacks after leading the Ivy League in both categories en route to a first team All-Ivy League selection.
