Women’s Rowing Captures Woodbury Cup for Fourth Straight Year

The Lions’ women’s 1V8 sails past Northeastern for the crown
NEW YORK — Columbia women's rowing cruised past Northeastern for a fourth straight Woodbury Cup title on Saturday at Overpeck Park.
The Lions breezed past Northeastern by 16.14 seconds for the Woodbury Cup crown. Columbia's 1V8 boat had a time of 7:20.11 in the victory. Columbia's 1V4 and 3V8 also picked up wins on the day over Northeastern and Rhode Island. Click here for the full results. Columbia returns to action on Sunday at Overpeck Park to race against Brown and BU.
The Woodbury Cup is named in memory of former Columbia rower and team captain Melanie Woodbury, a 1996 graduate of Barnard College, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 2002.
The lightweight 1V8 crew finished third in the Dodge Cup behind Yale and Penn with a time of 5:40.7. The 2V8 squad also finished third behind Penn and Yale at 5:44.5. Click here for the full results.
The heavyweight program was also in action on Saturday, competing in the Childs Cup (morning session) against Princeton, Stanford, and Penn before racing against Brown (afternoon session) at Lake Carnegie. The Lions raced four boats on the day. Click here for the full results.
