
Field Hockey Set to Begin Ivy League Play

NEW YORK ? The Columbia Field Hockey team takes to the road this weekend to begin Ivy League play. The Lions will square off against the Brown Bears on Saturday at noon.
NFHCA Top 20 Poll
After defeating Quinnipiac, 3-2, on September 14, Columbia improved to a perfect 3-0 on the year and extended its home winning streak to 12. For the second consecutive week, the Lions have received votes in the NFHCA Top 20 Poll.
Something to Mull Over
Sophomore Caitlin Mullins was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after a strong showing against Quinnipiac on September 14. The Garden City, N.Y. native scored two goals, including the game-winner on a penalty stroke with 13:19 remaining, to help the Lions defeat the Bobcats, 3-2
Close Call
Four of the last five contests between Columbia and Brown have been decided by one goal. The only exception was Columbia's 4-0 victory last year at the Columbia Field Hockey Venue.
Scouting the Opponent
The Columbia-Brown matchup marks the home opener for the Bears after four straight road games to begin the season. Brown enters this weekend with a 1-3 overall record after falling to New Hampshire (5-2), Villanova (1-0), and Northeastern (7-1). The Bears defeated Maine 2-1 on September 7 in a stroke-off.
First-year Abigail Taft leads her team with six points (3 goals) while senior Sara Eaton ranks second with three points (1 goal, 1 assist). Sophomore Lauren Kessler has seen a majority of the action between the pipes, recording 37 saves in the four games she has started this season.
