Day 8
Good Evening!
After watching the tape
First team qb was not live, the remainder were live. Dropped balls and inconsistency are the best descriptors for the play of the 1st offense today. That is not to take away from the great effort that the first team defense put in this afternoon. Bell and Kelly moved the seconds and thirds down the field on drives. Both of those groups ran the ball well but were not consistent in the pass game.
Brian Deveau was a good quarterback in high school as well as a defensive back.
Special Teams
The only special team we did today was PAT/FG and it was bad. We have to become consistent and automatic in this phase. He played well today in the scrimmage.
Offense
We actually pass protected pretty well with the first group, but we dropped passes, passes were broken up, or didn't get open. We did run the ball decently with the first group and good with the others. Penalties negated a couple of good runs, and made long situations longer. We have to be more productive on first down, run and pass, to get into better third down situations. Chao had a good day running the ball, as did Gerst. The offense did convert in goal line situations, but we still have to do the work it takes to get to the goal line.
Defense
We flew around and made plays on defense. Morine had a good day at corner, as did Otis who had a pick. We are doing a better job with our initial tacklers making the tackle. We have to get better stopping the run with our second group. We have to improve on our pass rush techniques, and angles of pursuit. Blitzes can be timed up better. We had one mental penalty, jumping offsides on the goal line, and pass interference on a 4th down play kept a drive alive.
Overall it was not as crisp as it needs to be on either side.
Players had off tonight, while coaches graded the film. We are back at it in the morning.
