It's Time! Columbia Football Announces Incoming Class of 2015
6/2/2011 9:20:00 AM | Football
NEW YORK - Patricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football Norries Wilson has announced the names of 29 students, that have accepted offers of admission from Columbia University and will participate in their first year of football for the Lions. Twenty-eight are 2011 high school graduates and one is a transfer from Texas A&M University.
The class of 2015 includes players from fifteen states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin and one from the District of Columbia.
Currently 16 are slated to play on offense and 13 on defense. In those two groups some are short and long snappers for punts and PAT/FG.
The addition of these young men will bring the fall roster number to 110.
Coach Wilson on the Class of 2015
"We are excited about each class that we bring to Columbia University and this class is not an exception. First and foremost, these young men sought a quality education that could help them achieve success well after their football playing days were finished, and they believed Columbia University could provide them with that education.
Each student in this class was a good player at his respective high school and understands that when he arrives on campus he will have to re-compete against his classmates and the returning players to be a good player here at Columbia. A few years ago, an incoming freshmen probably could see a good bit of playing time in our program. With our reduction in attrition that is not the norm anymore.
When we go on the road we look to get a better player than we currently have in the program at all positions. This isn't a slight against the players we have returning, but an honest attempt to improve the talent on the team and level of play on the field in a very competitive league."

Wilson's Final Remarks on the Class of 2015
"Is this a good class? Heck I don't know, we still have to coach them, and if they finish what they start we can look back and see what they accomplished as a player over four seasons and maybe we can determine if he was a good player. We are excited for their arrival and look forward to them helping us reach our goals of a winning season for Columbia Football and hopefully a run at a League Championship. Both have been absent for far too long."
