PRINCETON, N.J. – The Columbia women's basketball team has been picked sixth in the 2014-15 Ivy League Preseason Poll the league office announced Tuesday morning.
The Lions received 38 points along with Dartmouth to tie for sixth. At the top with 123 points each, was Princeton, who picked up nine first-place nods, and the defending Ivy League champion Penn, who collected seven first-place votes. Also receiving a first-place vote was Harvard who finished third with 106 points while Cornell (61) and Brown (33) rounded things out.
Columbia put together a 6-22, 3-11 Ivy League campaign in 2013-14, its first under the guidance of Stephanie Glance. Eleven letterwinners return this year including a pair of starters from a year ago; Tori Oliver and Miwa Tachibana. Oliver returns to Morningside Heights for her sophomore campaign as the leading scorer from a year ago. Tachibana, meanwhile, continues to be the Lions' threat from beyond the arc.
Columbia's 2014-15 roster also features Carolyn Binder, Carolyn Gallagher, Devon Roeper, Ara Talkov, Sara Mead, Kayla Patton, Amara Mbionwu, Campbell Mobely and Crystal Owusu. The Lions' lineup will also get a boost from the addition of six first-years; Jillian Borreson, Riley Burke, Alexa Giuliano, Kathleen Ryan, Paige Tippe and Camille Zimmerman.
A trip to the west coast kicks off the 2014-15 Lions' season as Columbia travels to San Francisco for a match-up against the Don Friday, Nov. 14 at 10 p.m. EST. Columbia's first of 16 home games at Levien Gymnasium will take place Wednesday, Nov. 19 versus Lafayette. Season tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased online by clicking here or by calling (888) LIONS-11.
