Women's Tennis Plays at 2014 USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. – Over the weekend four members of the Columbia women's tennis team competed at the 2014 USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational presented by VISIT FLORIDA at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. Sophomore Vivian Cheng and first-years Rima Asatrian, Adi Milstein and Alexandra Solovyev sported Columbia blue at the tournament.
Cheng highlighted the Lions performers as the sophomore picked up two victories in Orlando. After dropping a 6-2, 7-6(5) decision to second-seeded Jennifer Pfeifler of Auburn the Syosset, New York, native soared to a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Stetson's Brittany Hill. Cheng picked up her second win of the weekend against Kelly Wilford of Virginia Tech (3-6, 6-3, 1-0(9).
The first-years could not find wins in their respective draws, but each earned a triumph in their consolation matches Saturday. Asatrian down Cortney Cesarini of Central Florida (6-3, 6-4), Milstein defeated Annina Brendel of Youngstown State (6-3, 6-4) and Solovyev beat Jessica Corest of Southern Florida (6-4, 6-0).
Asatrian's fall continues this week as she teams up with junior Kanika Vaidya at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Nov. 6-9. The Lions' duo of Tina Jiang and Crystal Leung will also compete at the national championship.
