PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia field hockey juniors Christina Freibott and Kimberly Pianucci have been named Ivy League Co-Players of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Freibott scored two goals and an assist, while Pianucci pitched a shutout in the Lions' 4-0 win over Yale Saturday.
Freibott broke the Columbia single-season record for points with her goal in the 19th minute. The national leader in assists added to her total in the second half, dishing to teammate Katie Ruesterholz for an insurance goal, and then tallied her 10th of the season to cap the scoring in the 45th minute. Freibott also has a 10-game point scoring streak and is now ranked fifth in the nation in points per game.
Pianucci shares player of the week honors for the second time in a row after making seven stops in goal for the Lions. With Columbia leading 2-0 in the first half, the Glen Gardner, New Jersey, native made a pair of big saves to keep her team comfortably in front. With the Bulldogs pressing in the second half, Pianucci made five more stops to pick up her second clean-sheet of the year.
Zoe Blake, who posted a goal and assist in the victory, was also named to the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll.
The Lions, winners of six-straight, travel to Harvard on Saturday, November 8, for a 12 p.m. contest. Columbia will look to capture its first Ivy League title with a win over the Crimson. Fans can catch the action live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
