NEW YORK – Columbia field hockey first-year Maeve Doherty was selected to play for the U.S. National Indoor Team at the 4 Nations Canada Indoor Invitational from Dec. 5-7. The event featured host Canada, Argentina, South Africa along with the United States.
Doherty started in all four games and scored a goal off a penalty corner against Argentina on the final day of the event.
With the Lions, Doherty played in all 17 games in the defensive backfield and helped Columbia post a pair of shutouts during its 12-5 campaign.
"During Maeve's recruiting process, we discussed her USA Hockey aspirations and how supportive we would be of her representing her country,” head coach Marybeth Freeman said. “It's great for Maeve to be a part of this tour, and potential tours in the future, for her overall hockey development. She continues to work hard to put her best hockey foot forward and continuously grow on as many levels as possible. We're proud of what she has accomplished to date and how wonderfully she represents our program."
