
Volleyball Falls to George Washington, Illinois State in Colonials Challenge

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Columbia fell to George Washington and Illinois State on the first day of the 2014 Colonials Volleyball Challenge.
The Lions faced the host George Washington at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 12 and fell 3-0. The Colonials jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first set. Columbia trailed 9-5 before scoring four straight points to tie the game at 9-9. Both teams traded short runs, but GW took a commanding 20-15 lead before Columbia rattled off six points to trail 23-21. The Colonials pushed the final two points for the 25-21 win.
In the second set both teams traded points until the game was tied 18-18 and GW went on a 7-2 run to close the set. The Colonials won the third set in similar fashion, by making a late run to win 25-20.
Bailey Springer led the Lions with 11 kills, while Charlee Dyroff had 14 digs in the loss.
Columbia lost to Illinois State 25-17, 25-16, 25-14. Carla Dibbs led Columbia with seven kills, while Dyroff added 15 digs.
Columbia (3-2) faces Baylor (6-2) on Saturday, September 13 at noon.
