ATLANTA, Ga. - The No. 38 Columbia women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 29 Texas Tech in the consolation match of ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex Sunday.
Columbia (0-2) earned its first doubles victory of the season, but it would not be enough as it narrowly relinquished the opening point of the match. The 42nd-ranked tandem of Tina Jiang and Crystal Leung fell on the first doubles court, 6-3, but Columbia's second team of Rima Asatrian and Alexandra Solovyev answered back with a 6-1 victory of their own. The point came down to the third court and Adi Milstein and Vivian Cheng were unable to fend off Texas Tech's (1-1) Gabriele Talaba and Hortense Boscher, 6-1, sending the doubles point to the Raider Red.
Asatrian put the Lions on the board with a 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 35 Lynn Kiro at the second spot, but Texas Tech went on to take the three matches on the third, first and fifth courts to seal the victory.
The Lions will open the home portion of its schedule on Friday, Jan. 30 when it welcomes St. John's to the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. First-serve is set for 2 p.m.
