NEW YORK – After an impressive opening month of action, seniors Christina Freibott (field hockey) and Kyle Jackson (men's soccer) have been named Columbia's Student Athletes of the Month for September.
Freibott led the team with 12 points in September after posting up four goals and four assists for the Lions. With two multi-point games already this year, the senior midfielder helped Columbia spark a five-game winning streak to take a 5-2 record into the month of October. Among her point totals this season included a goal and assist in a 3-2 victory over Michigan State who was ranked No. 19 in this year's preseason poll.
Jackson has been a solid force for the Lions in net this year, helping the men's soccer team to a 4-1-1 record after only allowing three goals in six games. Jackson helped Columbia rank sixth in the nation as a team with a GAA of .470 per game while posting up shutouts in three of its four wins. The senior goalkeeper currently ranks seventh in the nation in GAA at .470 and is tied for eighth overall with an .864 save percentage.
