DAY THREE HIGHLIGHTS
Providence, R.I. - The Columbia men's swimming & dving team capped the Bruno Invitational with a third-place finish behind a tally of 668.5 points on Sunday, Dec. 4. The Lions picked up five victories throughout the meet, including today's win by Eric Ng in the 1650 freestyle with a first-place time of 15:34.15. Brian Tsau also placed fifth in the event with a time 15:53.38.
Michal Zyla posted a 'B' finals victory in the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:48.09 for an eighth-place overall finish. Jack Smith added another 'B' finals crown in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:00.42.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
Shane Brett continuesd to have a senstatioal meet for the Lions on the second day action grabbing his second crown in the 400 individual medley. Brett hit the wall in a first-place time of 3:52.96, followed by a third-place time of 3:54.33 by Jack foster and seventh-place finish by Cole Stevens at 4:05.50.
Jae Park led a Columbia 1-2 punch in the 100 breastroke with season-best winning time of 54.38, edging Jack Smith who clocked in with a runner-up time of 54.99.
Jayden Pantel dominated the three-meter diving event as he lapped nearly the enitre field, needing only a score of one heading into his final dive to secure the victory. Pantel bested a prelims score of 354.60 with a winning finlas score of 392.35. Shiniya Kono also place seventh in the event with a finals tally of 281.55.
Kevin Frifeldt led all swimmers in the 'B' finals of the 100 butterfly with a first-place touch at 49.14. In the 200 freestyle, Nian-guo earned an overall runne-up finish with a time of 1:37.30, while Michal Zyla added another 'B' finals victory for the Lions for a ninth-place overall finish with a time of 1:39.44.
The Lions capped the day with a runner-up finish in the 800 freestyle relay as the squad of Shane Brett, Michal Zyla, Jae Park and Nian-guo combined for a time of 6:37.45.
Columbia will return for the final day of action on Sunday, Dec.3. The preliminary sessions are set to begin the day at 10 a.m, followed by the finals sessions at 5 p.m.
DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS
The Columbia men's swimming & diving team will kicked-off day one on of the Bruno Invitational on Friday Dec. 2 with a solid day of performances in the opening six events, the 200 freestyle relay, the 500 freestyle, the 200 I.M., the 50 freestyle, the 400 medley relay and the one-meter dive.
The Lions made their biggest splash in the 200 I.M. winning all three finals heats, including an overall frist-place victory by Shane Brett who clocked in with a time of 1:48.16. Jae Park also place fifth overall with an 'A' final finish time of 1:51.04. Nian-guo Liu claimed a 'B' finals victory at 1:50.60 for a ninth-place finish and Jospeh Lozano won the 'C' finals in the event with a time of 1:52.82.
Jayden Pantel capped the day with a runner-up finish in the one-meter dive behind a pair 300+ point performances. He followed a 307.7 prelims tally with a second-place finals total of 320.10.
