Men's Tennis Earns 6-1 Road Win at Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The No. 23 Columbia men's tennis team improved to 7-3 on the season with a 6-1 road win at No. 50 Middle Tennessee State.
The 10th ranked doubles pair of Shawn Hadavi and Richard Pham continued their strong season, defeating Ayed Zatar Cordero and Gonzaleo Morell, 6-2. Hadavi and Pham won their third consecutive match, improving to 7-1 this spring.
After the top doubles match was finished, Christopher Grant and Miguel Alda went on to earn a 6-4 victory in the No. 3 match over Luis Morillo Diaz and Dima Zyhmantovich. The No. 2 match between No. 33 Mike Vermeer/Michal Rolski and Miguel Negre/Gian Issa went unfinished at 5-5.
Hadavi kept it going in singles play, topping Zyhmantovich in the No. 1 match, 6-1, 6-0. The win was the seventh in the last eight outings for the No. 54 player in the ITA, who improved to 7-2 this spring.
Rolski was the next player to finish in the No. 5 match, when he defeated Luis Morillo Diaz, 6-2, 6-2. Victor Pham was next, topping Gonzalo Morell, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 match, before Mike Vermeer was a 6-4, 7-6 winner in the No. 3 match. Timothy Wang was the fifth singles winner for the Lions when he knocked off Gian Issa, 6-4, 7-5 (7-3).
Tomorrow, Columbia will head to Vanderbilt for a noon match with the Commodores.
