Men's Tennis Tops UT Arlington, 5-2

ARLINGTON, Texas - In the second match of a spring break trip, the Columbia men's tennis team was victorious, knocking off UT Arlington, 5-2. With the win, the Lions improve to 9-4 this spring.
Columbia got off to a strong start, earning the doubles point behind two wins. The 32nd ranked pair of Mike Vermeer and Michal Rolski played in the top doubles spot, earning a 6-4 win over Carlos Abiza and Mauricio Del Rio. Shawn Hadavi and Victor Pham dropped the No. 2 match, 6-4, while Christopher Grant and Miguel Alda clinched the point with a 7-6 victory.
The top four singles matches all were wins for the Lions, with two of those coming in straight sets.
Vermeer made quick work of Del Rio in the No. 3 match with a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Eric Rubin was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Mario Muniesa in the No. 4 match.
The top two matches both went to a third set, but the Lions came away with two wins, including No. 64 Hadavi in the No. 1 match. The junior was a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 winner over Guanarteme Nuez, while Pham was a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 winner against Jhonathan Gonzalez in the No. 2 match.
The Lions will have the day off on Wednesday, leading up to a Thursday match at No. 44 SMU, and a Saturday showdown at No. 3 TCU.
