Women's Rowing Completes Day One of Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Columbia women's rowing team had four crews race twice on the opening day of the Clemson Invitational on Saturday. The Lions will complete the competition on Sunday morning on Lake Hartwell.
In the morning session, the Lions' varsity eight turned in a time of 7:01 to claim fifth place. Ohio State picked up the victory, followed by UCLA, Louisville and Michigan State. Columbia increased its speed in the evening session, but so did the rest of the squads. Michigan turned in a 6:28.8 to win the race, while the Lions recorded a time of 6:46.4 to claim sixth out of seven boats.
Columbia's second varsity eight placed sixth out of seven crews in the opening heat, clocking in at 7:18.2. The Lions bounced back with a 6:49.3 to improve their place by one spot in the 6:18 p.m. competition.
The Lions varsity four completed the course in 8:14 for a sixth place finish in its first race and took fifth in the nightcap, posting a time of 7:38.3
In the second varsity four, Columbia crossed the finish line in 8:25.9 to place fifth out of six crews. The evening session was a better showing with the Lions taking third out of five boats, completing the course in 7:52.9.
