The Lions look to build off last week’s sweep of racing over Notre Dame and Navy
LEONIA, N.J. — Columbia women's rowing welcomes Northeastern and URI on Saturday before hosting Brown and BU on Sunday at Overpeck Park.
The Lions' weekend of racing is highlighted by the matchup against Northeastern on Saturday for the Woodbury Cup. Columbia has retained the Woodbury Cup in each of the last three seasons. Last year on Charles River, the Lions edged the Huskies by exactly two seconds in the Varsity Eight race.
The Woodbury Cup is named in memory of former Columbia rower and team captain Melanie Woodbury, a 1996 graduate of Barnard College, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 2002.
Columbia is coming off a sweep of all five races over Notre Dame and Navy last Saturday at Overpeck Park. Columbia's Varsity Eight crew dominated the Fighting Irish and Midshipmen, finishing 13.9 seconds in front of Notre Dame for the victory at 7:10.17. The 2V8 and 3V8 edged Notre Dame for first, posting winning times of 7:24.87 and 7:45.91, respectively. The Lions also picked up wins from the Varsity Four with a time of 8:13.91 and the Second Varsity Four at 8:04.48.
