NEW YORK – The Columbia field hockey team has unveiled its 2016 fall schedule, head coach Caroline Nelson-Nichols announced today. The Lions will kick of their 20th anniversary season at Massachusetts on Friday, Sep. 2.
“This season will be another exciting one as we continue our push to make our mark in the Ivy League and NCAA,” stated Nelson-Nichols, who will enter her second season at the helm. “We have some solid contests on the schedule this year and I know we are up for the challenge.”
The 17-game schedule features a trio of 2015 NCAA Tournament qualifiers and seven home dates at the Baker Athletics Complex.
Columbia will be on the road for the first four games and has one neutral-site contest, facing off against Holy Cross (Sep. 4) before a two-game weekend in East Lansing to take on Michigan State and Central Michigan (Sep. 9-11). The Lions wrap up the road-swing at Delaware on Sep. 16 before squaring off against Fairfield in their home opener on Sep. 18.
Ivy League play commences at Brown on Sep. 24 and Columbia will remain in Providence for a Sep. 25 showdown at Bryant.
The rest of the Ancient Eight slate features home events against Cornell (Sep. 30), Princeton (Oct. 7) and Dartmouth (Oct. 21). The Lions travel to Penn (Oct. 14), Yale (Oct. 29) and Harvard (Nov. 5).
In non-conference play, Columbia will also welcome Rider (Oct. 2), Bucknell (Oct. 16) and will host LIU Brooklyn, who will play its inaugural season in 2016, on Oct. 30 for senior day.
