
Hall of Fame Inductees Featured on Columbia Football Season Tickets

NEW YORK—Columbia University Athletics has honored its rich football tradition with the theme of "Honoring Our Past, Building The Future" as five Hall of Fame inductees are pictured on the 2016 Columbia Football season tickets. According to the Columbia Athletic Ticket Office, season tickets will be mailed out the week of Monday, August 29. Keep an eye out for your season tickets!
The five Columbia football legends—Cliff Montgomery '34, Sid Luckman '39, Howard Hansen '52, Paul Kaliades '73 and Johnathan Reese '02—are or will be members of the university's Athletic Hall of Fame. Hansen, Kaliades and Reese will all be inducted into CU's Athletic Hall of Fame on October 20, 2016.
Columbia will open its 2016 season on Saturday, Sept. 17 against Saint Francis U at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium (Broadway and 218th Street).
Below is information on each of the Columbia Athletic Hall of Famers depicted on each of the five game tickets:
ST. FRANCIS U GAME (Sept. 17): CLIFF MONTGOMERY '34
2006 Columbia Athletic Hall of Fame inductee…Columbia quarterback from 1931-33 who was presented with the 1934 Rose Bowl Most Valuable Player Award after leading CU to a 7-0 win over Stanford…Architect of the famous KF-79 play which proved to the be game-winning play against Stanford…Played professional football for the Brooklyn Dodgers…Earned Silver Star in World War II while serving as a lieutenant commander in the Navy...Earned spot in the College Football Hall of Fame in 1963 after serving 25 years as a college football official.
PRINCETON GAME (Oct. 1): SID LUCKMAN '39
2006 Columbia Athletic Hall of Fame inductee…Only Columbia football player to be inducted into both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame…Hailed as the “man who elevated pro football to the level it now holds”…Quarterback who is credited with pioneering the T-Formation…Guided the NFL's Chicago Bears to four league championships…Three-time NFL Most Valuable Player award winner and seven-time All-Pro selection…Brooklyn native who is known as the “finest” football player New York City has ever produced…Earned All-America honors in 1938 and graced the cover of Time Magazine…Played at Columbia from 1936-38…Also served 14 seasons as a part-time NFL coach with the Chicago Bears.
DARTMOUTH GAME (Oct. 22): HOWARD HANSEN '52
Will be inducted into the Columbia Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016…Captain of the 1951 Columbia football team…Native of West Hempstead, Long Island…Totaled 86 total points and 1,203 rushing yards in three seasons…Owns the Columbia career record for average yards per carry (6.2 yards)…Only Columbia football player and one of 75 football players across the country to be featured in the initial 1951 Topps Trading Cards…One of two Columbia players to compete at the 1951 North-South College All Star game at the Orange Bowl…Two-time All-Eastern football team selection…Competed at Columbia from 1949-51.
YALE GAME (Oct. 28): PAUL KALIADES '73
Will be inducted into the Columbia Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016…Standout middle linebacker and placekicker at Columbia from 1970-72…Two-time All-America (Associated Press), two-time All-ECAC, three-time All-Ivy League honoree for the Lions…Jersey City, N.J. native…Converted a number of clutch kicks, including a miracle game-winner to defeat Dartmouth in 1971…Once made 20 tackles against Cornell in 1971 despite having his left arm taped to his chest to protect a separated shoulder…Team captain of 1972 team…Also played three years of baseball.
CORNELL GAME (Nov. 12): JOHNATHAN REESE '02
Will be inducted into the Columbia Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016…Columbia's all-time record holder in career rushing yards (3,321), single-season rushing yards (1,330), single game rushing (236 yards), single-season touchdowns (19) and single-season scoring (114 points)…Earned All-America honorable mention honors in 2000…ECAC All-East selection…Two-time David W. Smyth Football Cup winner…St. Louis, Mo. native…Competed at Columbia from 1998-2000…Played four seasons in the NFL with the New York Jets (2002-05).
