Harvard Hands Columbia First Home Defeat

NEW YORK – Behind five Uris Pool records, Harvard hand the Columbia men's swimming & diving their first home defeat of 2017 on Friday afternoon, 192-107. Despite the loss, the Lions had several impressive performances in their final home meet of the calendar year.
Jonathan Suckow continued his unbeaten streak in the three-meter and one –meter dive in his fourth-consecutive sweep. The first-year posted a top score of 422.78 in the three-meter and 357.45 in the one-meter dive.
The tandem of Cole Stevens, Jace Ng, Kevin Frifeldt and Albert Gwo powered for a 200 medley relay victory with an impressive combined time of 1:28.40. Jace Ng returned in the 100 breaststroke for his second-consecutive Ivy League victory in the event with a time of 56.09. Jack Smith also place third in the event at 56.41.
The Lions took a pair of top-three finishes in the 200 freestyle with Nian-Guo Liu placing runner-up in 1:37.70 and Michal Zyla in third place at 1:39.01. Cole Stevens tallied runner-up points in the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.91.
Albert Gwo hit the wall in 20.45 in the 50 freestyle for a second-place tie. Gwo added another runner-up performance in the 100 freestyle in 45.84, along with Zyla in the 200 backstroke in 1:48.55 and Jae Park in the 200 breaststroke in 2:01.83. Placing third in the 100 butterfly was Kevin Frifeldt with a time of 50.10
Harvard's Logan Houck set a new Uris Pool record in a 1000 freestyle win with a time of 9:02.30,besting the previous time of 9:06.59 set by Columbia's Tony Corbisiero. Dean Farris added two pool records for the Crimson in the 100 backstroke at 47.41 and the 100 freestyle clocking in at 43.44, breaking records of 49.09 (100 back) set by Columbia's David Jakl and 44.09 (100 Free) set by Columbia's Adam C. Powell.
Koya Osada tabbed the fourth pool record of the day for Harvard in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:46.94, surpassing the mark of 1:47.93 set by Harvard's Jack Manchester. The Crimson closed the afternoon with a record setting 200 free relay time of 1:19.79, finishing ahead of the previous mark of 1:20.74.
Up next, The Lions will compete in the three-day Big Al Invitational hosted by Princeton on Friday, Dec. 1 - Sunday, Dec. 3.
