Women's Golf Ends Day One at Clemson Invite in 14th Place

SUNSET, S.C.—Led by 42nd place individual performances from senior Jackie Chulya and first-year Ridhima Dilawari, the Columbia women's golf team concluded day one of the highly competitive Clemson Invitational in 14th place Friday held at The Reserve at Lake Keowee. Columbia will tee off at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Chulya and Dilawari both finished day one with identical 75s (+3). Chulya fired two birdies and parred 11 holes on the day. Dilawari, in her first competition of the spring, played consistent golf as she shot par on eight of nine holes on the front nine. She finished the day with one birdie and 13 pars.
Senior Rachel Shi concluded day one in 51st place with a 76, senior Camilla Vik is in 73rd place after carding a 78 and junior Nancy Xu is currently in 83rd place after shooting an 80.
Columbia's five golfers combined for a 304 (+16) after day one. Furman leads the team competition at 285, followed by Michigan State at 288 and Florida at 289. Furman's Alice Chen is the individual leader after 18 holes which saw her card a 68 (-4), followed by Texas' Sophia Schubert and Houston's Allie Andersen, both at 69 (-3).
Tournament is being played on the par-72, 6,260-yard Reserve at Lake Keowee golf course.
Hosted by Clemson, Columbia is one of 17 teams competing in the field. According to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings (as of March 27, 2017), three top-10 ranked teams and seven top-30 ranked teams, 13 of the nation's top-50 players and 23 of the nation's top-100 players will play in the tournament. Top-30 ranked teams in the field include No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 Florida, No. 8 Furman, No. 18 Texas A&M, No. 22 Oklahoma, No. 27 Texas, No. 28 Ohio State, along with Clemson, Houston, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Louisville, UNC-Wilmington, Tennessee, Tulane and Vanderbilt.
