Lions one shot back on the team leaderboard
AIKEN, S.C. — The Columbia women's golf team is one shot back after two rounds of the More Than Golf Invitational, presented by Bank of America. The second round was contested on Monday at Old Barnwell.
Three Lions are in the top 10 and six are in the top 20 of the 63-player field. They are all led by first year Kristina Xu, who battled to shoot a 6-over-par 79 in Monday's second round. Coupled with her 4-under 69 on Sunday, Xu is 2 over for the tournament and shares the 36-hole lead with Tulsa's Samantha Olson and Denver's Logan Hale.
One shot back of the lead group is first year Emily Zeng. The rookie from Beijing posted a 5-over 78 on Monday and is tied for fourth at 3 over for the tournament. Sophomore Christine Chang (+6) is tied for eighth, putting three Lions in the top 10 heading into Tuesday.
The field's individual scoring average was almost three shots higher from Sunday's first round to Monday's second. The Lions posted a team round of 20-over-par 312, which was good enough to stay well within contention. Columbia (+19) is just a shot back of co-leaders Tulsa and Denver (+18). Fourth-place Augusta (+31) leads the chase pack.
Tuesday's final round begins at 9 a.m. Fans can follow the action on the College Golf Scoreboard, powered by Clippd.
