PITTSBURGH, Pa. – In a game that featured an over one-hour delay for lightning, the Columbia men's soccer team fell at Pitt, 1-0.

With the non-conference loss, the Lions sit at 4-3-1 with a match at Penn looming on Saturday in primetime.

Both teams felt each other out in the first half, as Columbia was only able to get off one shot from
Avi Eller in the frame, which was blocked in the 14th minute. Pitt was able to tally five shots in the first half, including attempts on goal by Edward Kizza and Nyk Sessock which were both saved by
Dylan Castanheira.

After the teams went into the half deadlocked in a scoreless tie, the match was interrupted just moments into the second half. Although the teams started the match 15 minutes early around 6:45 p.m., lightning in the area forced a delay in play.

When play resumed around 9:05 p.m. after a being suspended just before 8:00 p.m., the teams took the field in the 53rd minute of play.

In the 78th minute, the Panthers finally were able to break the tie with a set piece. Javi Perez sent a corner kick into the box, and Jose Sena Arbona's header got past Castanheira for what would be the game-winner.

The Lions were able to put up four shot attempts in the second half, none of which would find the net.
Sebastian Gunbeyi had an attempt blocked in the 52nd minute, before
Beto Carrillo had a shot saved less than a minute later. In the 59th,
John Denis had his lone attempt saved, while a final attempt from Carrillo went high of frame in the 85th minute.

This was the second road loss of the season interrupted by a lightning delay, as Columbia dropped a similar 1-0 match at Kentucky that was delayed almost one hour due to inclement weather.
