PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — The Columbia women's rowing team capped its spring season at the Ivy League Championship on Sunday. The Varsity Four C highlighted the day at Cooper River with a second-place finish, while a pair of seniors were named to the All-Ivy League Team.

Seniors Charlotte Buck and Hannah Juge were the All-Ivy League recipients. Buck was named to the First Team for the first time in her career, while Juge was named to the Second Team. After awarding First and Second Team All-Ivy League selections to the first and second place Varsity Eight crews in previous years, the Ivy League changed its All-Ivy League formatting to include the best rowers from all eight schools. Coaches nominated five places prior to the event and team's earned All-Ivy recognition based on their team's finish in the Varsity Eight.

The team portion of the day was highlighted by Varsity Four C, with sophomore coxswain Caprice Herjavec, first-year Hope Weisman, first-year Samantha Stehley, junior Catie Aral and junior Anneliese Gallagher taking the silver. The crew was neck-and-neck with Princeton through the first 500 meters before taking a four-second lead at the halfway point. The Lions maintained that lead all the way to the finish, beating out Harvard and the Tigers with a time of 8:33.065. Brown won the race by 15 seconds.

"The entire squad raced hard," first-year head coach Emerson Curry said. "A few of our crews, like the Four C, were able to put together some strong performances, but everyone was hoping for better results.

"On a positive note, we have a strong group of young athletes that saw the speed demanded from our league. I think they have the ability to work their way up."

The Lions did not get the results they had hoped for in the morning heats. The Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four A and Varsity Four B all finished at the bottom of their races and failed to qualify for the Grand Finals. The Varsity Eight ended the day on a good note with a seven-second, head-to-head victory over Cornell in the Petite Final.

Columbia completed the championship in seventh place with 17 team points, two points better than Cornell. Princeton won its third straight Ivy League title in the Varsity Eight, while Yale finished with the highest team points total of 78.
