PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia sophomore Liza Ray has been invited to participate at the 2018 Under 23 Lightweight Women's National Team Selection Camps this summer. The lightweight women's camp will select the lightweight women's quadruple sculls crew that will race at the 2018 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, July 25-29, in Poznan, Poland.
"Liza is one of the most motivated athletes on the team," first-year head coach Emerson Curry said. "She works incredibly hard and I think she's going to do well. She's a bit of a smaller athlete so she has an opportunity to row lightweight … It means a lot. I think it shows the type of athlete that can be successful at this level."
Ray is one of eight athletes nationwide selected for the Quad Camp – six additional athletes were waitlisted. The Miami, Florida native has spent her first two years at Columbia in the Varsity Eight crew.
