Recent graduate earns spot in United States Women’s 8+
NEW YORK. — Columbia women's rowing's Charlotte Buck will represent the United States at the 2018 World University Rowing Championships, set for August 10-12 in Shanghai, China. Buck will compete in the women's 8+ and is one of 15 women's rowers and coxswains selected for the World University Games team.
"I'm incredibly proud and grateful to be able to represent the United States and continue to train after graduation," said Buck, who was also invited to U23 Sweep Camp last summer.
The U.S. University Games team is training together on Ford Lake in Ypsilanti, Michigan throughout the summer before leaving for Shanghai on August 3. The team will train in China for one week leading up to the World University Championships.
Buck will go to Shanghai off back-to-back CRCA Pocock All-America selections. The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced its 46 combined first and second team selections earlier this month. Buck earned second team honors for the second consecutive season.
"I'm very proud of Charlotte," head coach Emerson Curry stated. "She is an exceptional athlete and she began her rowing career at Columbia. She's come so far in such a short time and I'm looking forward to seeing what she continues to do."
Rising junior Liza Ray and assistant coach Samantha Warren were selected to represent the U.S. at the U23 World Rowing Championships. Ray will be racing in the Women's Quadruple Sculls while Warren will coach the Women's Double Sculls. The 2018 U23 World Rowing Championships begin Wednesday in Poznan, Poland.
