Women's Soccer To Play A Pair In Colorado

NEW YORK – A trip to the Centennial State will produce a pair of matches this weekend for the Columbia women's soccer team, who battles Colorado College and Denver this Friday and Sunday.

After a pair of results last weekend, the Lions sit at 1-0-1.

OPENING FRAME
Columbia got on the board first with an Emma Anderson goal, but a Drexel score in the second half led to a 1-1 draw in the season opener with the Dragons. Anderson netted her 21st career goal after Mallaika Tomar found her in the box on a nice forward ball, and a chip from the senior landed inside the far post.

After the draw, the Lions hosted Fordham two days later, putting up an offensive outburst in a 3-0 win over the Rams. Emily Koe got Columbia on the board in the 25th minute after a give-and-go from Anderson, then Talia Tyler found the net with one second left in the first half to make it a 2-0 contest. In the second, Tyler found Tomar on a run-out, sealing the deal in the 77th minute during the win.

Sophie Whitehouse picked up the 10th shutout of her career during the victory, saving all three shots she faced.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
For her efforts in the victor over Fordham, Talia Tyler was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. The Muskegon, Michigan, native had one goal and one assist in the process, matching the weekend by both Tomar and Anderson.
