ATLANTA — The No. 15 Columbia men's tennis team completed its opening weekend of spring competition, competing against some of the nation's top teams at Georgia Tech's MLK Invitational in Atlanta.
 
Sophomore Jack Lin, ranked No. 40 in the nation, was crowned singles champion of the tournament after posting an undefeated 3-0 record. All three of his victories came against ranked foes. Lin kicked off the weekend with a bang, taking down Georgia's No. 2 Jan Zielinski, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, before defeating Georgia Tech's No. 68 Cole Gromley, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, and Illinois' No. 44 Aleks Kovacevic, 6-2, 7-5.
 
The event was hosted in a head-to-head dual match format, with the Lions taking on No. 12 Georgia on Saturday, host-team Georgia Tech on Sunday, and No. 16 Illinois on Monday.
 
It was a highly successful outing for Columbia, winning 17 of 25 singles matches and sweeping doubles play against both Georgia Tech and No. 16 Illinois.
 
Three Lions went undefeated in singles play, including Lin, sophomore Rian Pandole and senior Timothy Wang, Columbia also recorded five singles wins against ranked foes.
 
Columbia will officially open the 2019 season next weekend, returning home to the Dick Savitt Tennis Center to host Virginia Tech, Kentucky and Dartmouth for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Jan. 26-27. The Lions will open up action against Virgina Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
