NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Senior Jackie Tang and junior Jack Lin will close out the fall season for the Columbia men's tennis team at the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships this week. The tournament is set to begin Wednesday, Nov. 6 and concludes Nov. 10 in Newport Beach, California.
The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships features 128 of the nation's top collegiate singles players (64 men and 64 women) and 64 doubles teams (32 men's team and 32 women's teams). In its third year, having replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, it is the lone event on the collegiate tennis calendar to feature competitors from all five divisions playing in the same tournament.
The two Lions will each compete in the singles draw as well as teaming up to play in the doubles competition.
The sixth-ranked duo of Tang/Lin automatically qualified for the tournament after winning the doubles title at the 2019 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships last month. Earning the top seed in the doubles bracket, the Columbia tandem will begin action at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday, squaring off against North Carolina's Mac Kiger/Simon Soendergaard.
Individually, No. 9 Lin earned an at-large bid to the tournament in singles and is one of four individuals ranked in the Oracle ITA Division I Preseason National Rankings set to compete in the men's singles draw. With the No. 8 seed in the singles draw, Lin will open up action at the Fall Championships on Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET, taking on Texas A&M's Juan Carlos Aguilar for the second time this fall and the third time overall after defeating Aguilar in the NCAA Singles Championships last season.
Tang, ranked No. 77 nationally, earned entry in the season-ending tournament after advancing to the finals of the ITA Northeast Regional Championships. Tang will open up play against USC's Stefan Dostanic at approximately 3:30 p.m.
