HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Hofstra scored less than six minutes into the match and tacked on two more goals to defeat the Columbia men's soccer team, 3-0, Tuesday night in non-conference action out on Long Island.
Â
Moments after
John Denis had his left-footed shot from inside the area saved, Petter Soelberg put Hofstra (9-6-2, 5-2-1 CAA) on the board with the first of his two goals. Storm Strongin bent a pass into the box from well out that found Matthew Vowinkel, who one-touched it back to Soelberg at the arc. Soelberg took a step to his right before ripping a shot back across goal to make it 1-0.
Â
Soelberg found his second goal in the 27th minute. This time, he scored from outside the box, firing a shot from a yard clear of the penalty arc that rang off the right post and into the back of the net.
Â
Another long-range goal made it 3-0 in the 68th minute. Hendrik Hebbeker had possession outside the top-left side of the area and bent a shot that curled back inside the far post.
Â
Columbia (4-7-4, 1-2-2 Ivy) hosts Senior Day at Commisso Stadium on Sunday when it takes on Harvard. Kickoff against the Crimson is slated for 1 p.m.
